What makes us unique ?

The program is an exciting new way for Brooklyn's parents to provide their children with the benefits of a foreign language in a nurturing and supportive environment. Our education integrates the arts, humanities and sciences in a manner that nurtures the developmental needs of each child. With the power of miming, storytelling and poetry our educators awaken in the children a life-long love of learning, empathy towards others and creative thinking.
Our well-trained, highly dedicated teachers work to build on each student's unique strengths, interests and learning style while taking into account his or her needs of level of intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth.
Hands-on activities dominate, and children have opportunities to work individually and cooperatively in small groups.
Our hands-on program encourages children to develop their observation skills by doing many types of activities. These activities include use of the five senses, kinetic movement, spatial refinement, small/large motor skill coordination, and concrete knowledge that leads to later abstraction.

The projects are designed to involve hands-on investigation, finding the answers to questions, reading about a topic, and visually representing their learning through a variety of mediums. Positive guidance techniques are used to assist the interaction of the children with each other in a foreign language.

Curriculum:

The daily schedule includes a balance of stimulating and relaxing developmentally appropriate activities. This preschool program is a means of solidifying the experience of learning another language while also offering a stimulating and challenging experiential approach to learning.
We offer a two-year age range of pupils to encourage an interactive social and learning environment. This system allows flexibility in learning pace and allowing older children to become teachers by sharing what they have learned.

During the day the children will have the opportunity for:

  • creative activities such as art and movement including fine motor activities which give children the skills necessary to eventually learn to write;
  • language exploration;
  • discovery workshops to teach about nature and the world around us;
  • gross motor activities to develop healthy bodies;
  • manipulative tools to help develop beginning math concepts and cognitive activities to help develop age-appropriate concept development.

  • All activities will be led in French.
    "Learning a language at a young age develops neurological pathways that are not stimulated in any other way. It helps children to become abstract thinkers and problems solvers."

    Once LLS has received your application, we will schedule a Discovery Meeting with your child and then provide you with a response as soon as possible thereafter.

    We schedule a collective Discovery Meeting for all children at the Language & Laughter Studio at 139 Nevins Street (corner Bergen Street) on a date to be determined.

    This meeting is designed to allow the children to play and interact with one another and with the Language and Laughter Studio staff, all at once, for a half an hour.
    Afterwards, there will be a brief presentation (10-15 minutes) explaining the program and what to expect next in terms of the application process, as well as answering any questions.

    Below, please find a few guidelines regarding your visit:

    - Given the time of the Discovery Meeting, we strongly suggest that you feed your child before the meeting, so that he or she is not distracted by hunger and can act more like his or her normal self.

    - The Discovery Meeting is not a "child interview" but a chance for us to meet your child and for him or her to meet us. So that he or she is at ease, please present the Discovery Meeting beforehand to your child as a chance for him or her to meet some other children and to play with some new toys.

    - Be on time! A child who arrives late may not have sufficient time to get settled in and feel comfortable. Also, we do not over tire the children by running late.

    - When you arrive, please feel free to explore the room with your child, helping him/her get accustomed to the new surroundings. Proceed at a pace that is natural and comfortable for the two of you.

    - As the staff becomes more involved with your child, gradually seek to become less involved with him or her yourself. Allow the staff to direct the activities. Give your child time to respond independently.

    Thank you and we look forward to meeting with you!
