Igniting Curiosity and Creativity

Igniting Curiosity and Creativity: A New Beginning in Clinton Hill

Each summer marks the end of one chapter and the dawn of another. As we look forward to the upcoming school year starting in September 2024, we are thrilled to announce the launch of an innovative space designed to spark the curiosity and inspire the creativity of young children. Located in Clinton Hill, our new school will offer a beautiful and nurturing preschool environment for children ages 1 to 5, creative art and play-based after school programing for Elementary-aged students, and will also serve as a vibrant Francophone cultural center, celebrating the diversity of the Francophone world and our Brooklyn community.

This exciting venture is both a new beginning and a continuation of a beloved tradition. For years, we have nurtured and guided hundreds of children through these foundational early years, and we are now ready to expand our offerings in this larger, state-of-the-art space. Our goal is to create an environment where young minds can flourish through art and play.

We are delighted to introduce a few of the classes we will be offering this fall, along with an overview of our planned programs. Among these are two special productions scheduled for September and November, which promise to be highlights of our cultural calendar. This new space is the result of the work and investment of everyone, and in this sense, we give thanks to Violaine Huisman, Director of Cultural Affairs at L’Alliance New York. In addition to having connected with many stakeholders who each enriched our own school with their experiences, we want these interactions to endure, to last, and to establish LLS within a Francophone New York, for which the New York Alliance has been a major partner for us

Arts and Community Event Programming for Fall 2024

September: Rhizomes Project
We are excited to welcome the Rhizomes Project, a unique collaboration between dancer-choreographer Thierry Niang and visual artist Roxane Revon. This project intertwines dance and installation art, exploring themes of growth and interconnectivity through root systems and seeds.

Over the course of two weeks, our preschool students will engage in workshops where they will experiment with physical movement led by Thierry Niang and create plant-based installations under the guidance of Roxane Revon. This work will help deepen children’s understanding of nature and the interconnectedness of all beings.

Roxane Revon is a multi-disciplinary artist intrigued by the interdependence between species and more particularly between humans and vegetal beings. After graduating in philosophy and literature from La Sorbonne University (MA), she moved to New York where she started a career of theater director and continued her education (certificate Yale School of Drama, Stanford GSB).

She has been teaching performing arts at CUNY, Columbia University, L’Atelier theater and PS 84.

November: Le Petit B
Created especially for very young children, Le Petit B engages its audience through interactive play, choice, and spatial exploration. Created by award-winning choreographer Marion Muzac and visual artist Émilie Faïf, this charming immersive experience offers an inventive landscape performed by two dancers and warm objects. With a malleable scenic design that uses large, soft cushions to evoke the comfort of a mother’s breasts, this whimsical and poetic meditation on human bonds with material objects sets children free to frolic.

This performance is made possible by our partnership with the L’Alliance New York and the birth of our Francophone Cultural Center, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing arts programing to our community that celebrates the breadth and diversity of the Francophone world.

The performance will take place at our Clermont Location at 11:30am and LLS children and family members have first access to (free) tickets. We hope that you will plan ahead to be able to join us.
