French ONLINE CLASSES

French Literature

In this group class, our engaging instructor will introduce the students to French books. Students will discover the French culture and language by reading together, discussing what they have read, and working on projects related to the themes of these stories. This class will take place virtually on Zoom each week.

Our instructor for this class, Elena, has a PhD in French Literature, Thought and Culture from NYU and a B.A. in Art History, French, and International Studies from Northwestern University. At NYU, she specialized in 19th century French travel writing about Russia, taught all levels of French, and worked as a Postdoctoral Lecturer for two years. Before pursuing her graduate studies, she spent a year teaching English at two primary schools near Bourg-en-Bresse, France. She is passionate about literature, art, and teaching language to adults and children of all ages. Trilingual in French, Russian and English, Elena firmly believes in nurturing an international outlook through the study of languages and cultures.

This is a fun, interactive class to stimulate the imagination of the youngest children in French. Each week, children will join their teacher on Zoom, where we will spend time as a community singing, creating art, and listening to stories and music in French.

Our teacher for this class, Laure, arrived in New York City during the summer 2019 after living in France, Australia and Hong Kong. She is a trained psychologist and has worked with teens, adults and children, some of them with disabilities. After backpacking for a year in Australia and the surrounding area, she arrived in Hong Kong, where she had kids and founded her counseling company around perinatology and to help children overall. Very interested in neuroscience, child development, and deafness, Laure also started classes to become a trained FSL teacher (DAEFLE).

My experience at Language and Laughter Studio started in 2010 when I attended French au lait with my two year old daughter. My son was basically born into the program soon after and they both still attend classes and summer camp at the school today. The fact that they have been able to grow within the studio for 5+ years speaks to the strength of the program. My son went on to attend the Mini-Maternal program for two years which gave him a base in language which has now evolved beyond what I had imagined was possible. The overall learning environment nurtures independence and confidence through creativity. I could not give a higher recommendation.

Our older daughter S. attends Classes at LLS. She really loves it and comes home joyfully speaking Italian even after just a short bit of time in class each week. It's clear that LLS has tapped into a warm way to connect with the children and immerse the children without just hammering the language over their heads.
